I know what drivers i need I have the drivers, IaStor.sys (intel ICH9R chipset) If I could nuke the old drivers and have windows try to redetect MAY work..

I even tried going about it a diffrent way.. I have an old IDE hd that I borrowed from a friend and tried to boot to windows and got the 7B BSD which means it couldn't read the drive eaither.

I think i'm a lil up the tree here.. ARGH... Going to have to find a Nforce 4 mobo i think to fix this.

Man, installing drivers for a whole motherboard is a whole new story. First thing first, is to try to boot into safe mode, so you'll need to identify all the relevant drivers that is preventing the system from booting up. Once you can boot into safe mode, then you should be able to install the other drivers.

If you are using SATA on your new motherboard, try to identify exactly these drivers, it's usually the main cause of these issues - and if you still have the old motherboard, then it's easier to bootup on your old system, right click on the .ini file for the new SATA drivers, and choose install.

Typically for a new motherboard, the repair install is the only sane option, if it is possible.

Could you add maybe some more info on the INF files and what registry entries you had to add?

I'm still trying to get my board to work upgraded form nforce 4 sli to P35 board, having massive trouble here since I don't remember my windows CD key nor can I find the paper i had it on... To add salt to the cut, I can't boot at all obviously nor can i use a CD key grabber.

SOOO.. I need to get a way of getting this working manually!!

Thanks,

Great post exactly what I need to do, I tried to install drivers before the mobo swap but the stupid intel drivers won't let me install before hand.

I don't want to reinstall eaither, or do a inplace upgrade and loose my registry.

Good stuff mang!

I've been thinking of doing just this thing! Have imaged a new SATA drive from an IDE installation of windows, and now windows crash's everytime it tries to load, think its just missing the SATA drivers :(
